5 days Cebu Itinerary - Cebu City + Bantayan Island

At last we are now going to Cebu! I still cannot get over that we missed our flight to Cebu last year, but now finally we are going to Queen City of the South, CEBU!

It is a 1 hour and 20 mins plane ride from Manila to Mactan-Cebu International airport. We managed to get a cheap flight from Manila to Cebu via Cebu Pacific airlines. Also, there are daily flights from Manila to Cebu via AirAsia and Philippine Airlines. Just wait for promo flights to be able to get the best deal going to Cebu because you will really save a lot of money.

We went to Cebu last June 18-22, 2017 and the weather is perfectly fine, feels so much like summer! I guess month of June is one of the best time to go to beaches because it is not crowded anymore, unlike during summer season (March to May), beaches tends to get crowded.

Where we stayed in Cebu

There are a lot of great finds in Agoda and Booking.com for your chosen accommodations in Cebu. I used these two websites to book our accommodation ahead of time with no hassle. Here are my top recommendations that are worth your money:

Big Dreams Residences

During our first day, we stayed at Big Dreams Residences in Mandaue City. I love this place because it is very affordable, their service is great and the location is good. Also, I would like to highlight that their staffs are very accommodating and friendly.

Address: S.B. Cabahug, Mandaue City, Cebu, Philippines

Visit Agoda website to check more great and affordable accomodations

Anika Island Resort

This is where we stayed in Bantayan Island. Our stay here is great because I love the resort's facilities. They have a restaurant and bar that offers great food selection. Although, I must admit that the front beach here is not as great as Kota beach, but definitely this place is worth checking out.

Address: F. Roska St., Brgy. Okoy Sta. Fe, Bantayan Island 6047 Cebu, Philippines

ABC Hotel

We stayed here during our last night in Cebu. This is my favorite among all the accommodations that we stayed at because the location is very good, the place is very well maintained and rooms are spacious. I also like that there are restaurants and cafe near the hotel. Definitely, we had a fabulous stay here.

Address: Corner F. Ramos Street and Lim Tian Ting Street, 6000 Cebu City, Philippines

What places to visit in Cebu

1. 10,000 LED Roses Cafe

A one of a kind cafe situated in Cordova, Cebu. As you may or may not know, LED roses are famous in Seoul, South Korea because it is very beautiful during the night and became a tourist spot. No need to worry and go to Korea to witness these thousands of LED roses because we already have it here in the Philippines. It is perfect to visit this cafe at night to see these thousands of beautiful LED roses.

2. Magellan's Cross

One of the most famous tourist attraction in Cebu. This cross is located next to Basilica Minore del Santo Niño church which is also a famous place wherein you can find the image of Santo Niño de Cebú. This cross was brought by Ferdinand Magellan, a Spanish explorer in 1521, marking the start of Christianity in the Philippines.

3. Temple of Leah

Located in Busay, Cebu City, this temple was made possible by Teodorico Adarna, father of Ellen Adarna, for his undying love for his wife, Leah Villa Albino-Adarna. This Roman Architecture designed building was constructed in the year 2012. It is one of the famous attraction in Cebu because the temple is situated at the top of mountains, perfect for an overlooking scenery of Cebu City.

4. Sirao Flower Farm, the Little Amsterdam in Cebu

A 49-min travel to the Little Amsterdam, this hidden gem can be found in the middle of a hill in Sirao, Cebu City. You will definitely love this place if you love flowers. Personally, I did not enjoy our visit here because the time we went there, it was too cloudy and it seems that its gonna rain anytime soon. I also noticed that the flowers are not in full bloom. It would be much better if the flowers are in full bloom and if the weather is sunny.

5. Larsian

One must not leave Cebu without trying Larsian. You can see a wide variety of stalls that offers "paluto" (they will cook fresh seafoods, marinated pork or chicken, etc. the moment you ordered from them). It is our first time to try SuTuKil which stands for "Sugba" (grilled), "Tula" or "Tuwa" (soup), and "Kilawin" or "Kinilaw" (Filipino Ceviche). Also try their popular Chorizo de Cebu or Longganisa de Cebu (sausage) which is a sweet and smoky ground pork made into sausage form.

A SUMPTUOUS FEAST! (In the picture: Chorizo de Cebu, SuTukil, and puso (rice wrapped in coconut leaves)

6. Bantayan Island

If you are a beach lover, I would definitely recommend you visit Bantayan Island. It is an island located in the northern part of Cebu province that consists of three municipalities: Bantayan, Madridejos, and Santa Fe. It will take a 5-hour travel from Cebu City to Bantayan Island.

How to get to Bantayan Island, Cebu

We know that there are a lot of places to go when you visit Cebu. As what they say, either you go North Cebu or South Cebu, of course either way you will experience a one of a kind adventure. If you are planning to go North, make sure you include Bantayan Island in your list. Definitely you will love the simplicity and rural vibe of the island.

Bantayan Island is situated in the northern most part of Cebu province. It is one of the most sought after escapade to those who love the beach and adventure. This place has a lot to offer: white sand beaches, sand bar in Kota beach, water activites, beach hopping, cliff diving, or even go Skydiving! This place is worth the long journey.

If you are interested to go Skydiving, visit their website: https://skydivecebu.com/

As a first timer, I admit that going to new places are confusing and quite hard because I am afraid of getting lost! Haha! But going to Bantayan is easy as 1-2-3, Airplane -> Bus -> Ferry -> Santa Fe ferry terminal. That's it!

How to get there via plane:

When going to Cebu, I would recommend that you take a plane instead of ferry because (1) it is quicker, saves a lot of time, (2) there are already a lot of promo flights offered and to tell you, taking a ferry is more expensive, and (3) it is the easiest and most convenient option. From Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL), there are daily flights from Cebu Pacific, Air Asia or Philippine Airlines going to Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB). Estimated travel time is 1hr and 20mins.

Unexpected capture of bird's eye view of Bantayan Island from our plane ride :)

From Mactan-Cebu International Airport, you can go straight ahead to Cebu City North Bus Terminal. If you are carrying heavy luggage/s, I swear taking a cab, UBER, or GRAB is a lifesaver. From Cebu City North Bus Terminal, there are buses going to Hagnaya Port until 5PM. Just ride a bus with a sign "Hagnaya Port". There are van options as well if you want which has the same price with the Ceres buses and saves a lot of time since it has no stopovers. In our experience, we opted to ride van and we just had one quick stopover and going back from Hagnaya to Cebu City we opted to ride bus and honestly it took us much longer travel time. Estimated travel time from Cebu City North terminal to Hagnaya Port is 3 1/2 hours to 4 hours.

**For the complete and updated list of Ceres bus fare + schedule, visit https://bantayanisland.com/ceres-bus-schedules-fares-cebu-city-hagnaya/

Upon arrival in Hagnaya Port, buy a ticket going to Bantayan Island. Ferry departure is until 6PM. Estimated travel time going to Bantayan is 1hr or 1hr and 30mins.

**For the complete and updated list of ferry fare + schedule, visit https://bantayanisland.com/bantayan-island-ferry-schedules-fares/

The clear blue sea will greet you upon arrival :)

Price Breakdown:

NOTE: Cost below is per person only. I included the "port fee" that they charged to us before we left Sta. Fe port. We were actually picked up by the resort service. Port fee is different from terminal fee. Sooo yeahh. :)

As of June 2017

Tips and Recommendations:

1. If you are always on a budget, wait for promo flights. Usually promo flights offered are during off season (June to November travel period). We were actually able to book a flight last June 2017. Weather is perfectly fine, no storm and feels just like summer!

2. From Cebu City North bus terminal, I would recommend that you opt for van instead of bus. Most especially if you are in a hurry and you want to save a lot of time. It would really take less travel time and cost is almost the same when you opted for bus.

3. Eat your brunch or lunch in Cebu City. No restaurant or fastfood available in Hagnaya Port.

4. Travel earlier for less chances to be stuck in traffic. We departed Cebu City 9:30 AM, and luckily no traffic encountered. Going back, we departed Bantayan 12:15 PM and arrived in Cebu City proper 5:15 PM. Imagine that! :(

5. Book a hotel accommodation with pick up service. Practically it is less hassle and more convenient. I guess selecting option with pick up service will definitely won't break the bank. ;)

So, that's all for now. Hope you get to enjoy your next trip to Bantayan. :)

I heart Bantayan! :)

Travel Diaries 2016: Things to know before going to South Korea (For first timers!!!)

If you are wondering how to apply for a korean visa or what are the requirements before applying, here are the few things that I will tell you.

As a first timer to go to South Korea, I am really worried that my visa might not be approved. We have booked our ticket last year (October 2015) so it will be a waste of money if in case that may happen. Fortunately, me and my friends got our visas approved last September 2016, just in time for our trip. Yooohooo!!!

All set and ready to go! WOOT WOOT!

So if you are wondering what we did, here are the steps how to apply for a Korean visa:

1. Go to this website to check what are the requirements:
http://embassy_philippines.mofa.go.kr/english/as/embassy_philippines/visa/requirement/

There are a few choices that you need to specify before applying. Since I am an employee, of course I chose the option "For Employees".

2. Basically once you chose an option, it will provide a list of requirements. Below is the list that you need to provide (Option: "For Employees"):

Tourist/Business Visa Requirements for Employees
1. Application Form
2. 1 piece of Passport size colored picture
3. Original Passport (should be valid for more than 6 months)
4. Photocopy of Passport Bio-page (page 2)
5. Original & Photocopy of valid visa/s and arrival stamps to OECD member countries for the past 5 years (If applicable only)
6. Original Certificate of Employment
(must include applicant's position, date hired, compensation, office address, HR landline number(cell-phone number is not allowed), HR e-mail address)
7. Original Personal Bank Certificate
(must include account type, current balance, account opening date, ADB)
8. Bank Statement
(original or certified true copy of bank statements/passbook for the last 3 months)
9. ITR(Income Tax Return) or Form 2316 Copy
10. Copy of PRC Card or IBP Card (If applicable only)

* If personally invited by Korean
. Invitation Letter
. Photocopy of invitor's Passport or Identification Card
(authentication not required)
* If invited by Company in Korea
. Invitation Letter
. Photocopy of Korean Company Business Permit
(authentication not required)
* Frequent travelers who have traveled as tourist to OECD member countries within 5 years are exempted from submitting ITR.

3. After getting all the requirements that you needed, make sure that once you apply for a Korean visa, all requirements stated above will be provided. That is one tip that I am sure of that will help your visa to get approved easily. :)

Common FAQs:

1. Do we really need to provide "show money"?
Well, after reading a lot of articles and asking my friends or colleagues who have been there, they said that there is no such thing as "show money". They just need to ensure that your bank account can sustain your trip to Korea. But just to make sure, I allotted ample money in my bank account.

2. What type of paper I used in printing the application form?
I used an A4 size paper. Also, avoid making erasures. Everything must be well prepared.

3. What background did you use for the picture?
Just to be safe enough, use white background.

4. When should we apply for Korean visa?
You can apply 30 days prior your trip or within 30 days before your trip. A single entry visa is valid for 30 days only.

5. I am travelling with my friends or with my family, some of us do not have time to visit the embassy and pass the requirements, can I just ask them to pass my application?
Yes. Just make sure that you have provided all the needed requirements.

6. In the application form, how much should be the estimated travel cost?
Make sure that you put an ample amount of money that is very realistic which can sustain your whole trip in Korea. For me, I put 525USD = 25,000Php (Just to give you an idea, I travelled with my friends for 6 days).

7. Do you think I will be approved even though I haven't gone to any countries and as a first timer in Korea??
A very big, YES! To tell you honestly, this was my first time travelling out of the country in 25 years of existence. Haha! As what I have said, just make sure that everything that you will declare is true and all requirements needed will be provided. I promise, you will get your visa just in time.

8. Where is the embassy of Korea located?
Address : 122 Upper McKinley Road, McKinley Town Center, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig city 1634, Philippines
It is better if you take C5 route, keep an eye once you passed SM Aura because that will be you cue that you are already near the place. Stay on the right lane and you will also pass by Jollibee or Petron. Straight ahead and before the Mckinley welcome signage, you will see the Korean embassy.

For more information how to get there: http://embassy_philippines.mofa.go.kr/english/as/embassy_philippines/mission/location/index.jsp

9. Where to get their application form?
You can download the app form here: http://www.mofa.go.kr/ENG/image/common/title/res/visa_application_form(15.06.15.).pdf

Please note that the links provided above may subject to change. It is better to visit the main page of korean embassy for more accurate information.

Visit their website: http://embassy_philippines.mofa.go.kr/english/as/embassy_philippines/main/index.jsp

I hope I was able to help in this article. Let me know how it turned out, and enjoy your next trip to Korea! :)

Travel Diaries 2016: 5 Things to do in Namsan Tower and Love Locks in Seoul, South Korea

It was our first night in Seoul and we really cannot hide our excitement to explore the city. One of the main attractions that you may want to check out when visiting Seoul is the Namsan Tower. We love the cool weather when we visited Seoul last October 2016. It is much easier to tour around and do a lot of walking!

The N Seoul Tower or commonly known as Namsan Tower or Seoul tower, is a communication and observation tower located on Namsan Mountain in central Seoul, South Korea. At 236m, it marks the highest point in Seoul. (Source: Wikipedia)

How to get there?

We are lucky enough that Namsan Tower was just 10 minutes away from our guesthouse. If you are within Myeongdong area, you can reach the cable car entrance by walking 10-15 minutes following the street of the right side of the Pacific Hotel, after coming out of the exit 3 of Myeongdong station line 4. I was not able to take a picture of the street, but your landmark will be 7 eleven at the right corner of the street then you will see Pacific Hotel straight ahead.

Going to Namsan Tower proper, you have two options: either climb uphill going to the tower or ride the cable car. It may take you 20 minutes climbing uphill, but still depends on how fast you will climb up to the tower. But when you ride the cable car it will take you 5 minutes to reach the tower and enjoy the beautiful city lights of Seoul.

BUDGET TIP: If you want to save, you can take a one way ticket going up to Namsan Tower then go downhill by foot. One way ticket costs 6,500 KRW. FYI, no entrance fee. Totally FREE!

For an updated list of cable car rides, visit http://www.nseoultower.co.kr/eng/visit/traffic2.asp

What to do in Namsan Tower?

1. Take a picture in there popular love bench. Seriously, you must not leave Namsan Tower without taking a picture in this bench! :)

2. Experience the love locks with your loved one. Well as what they say, you will be with your loved one forever after placing your locks here. If you happen to forget to bring one, you can buy your love locks there.

3. Enjoy the beautiful city lights of Seoul. It tends to get a little crowdy while enjoying the amazing site but who cares? It's not something that you will worry that much. Trust me, it is nothing compared to the crowds here in Manila. Hahaha!

4. Visit the Hello Kitty Island and buy souvenirs. Shoutout to all hello kitty lovers out there! Definitely you want to check this one out. I am not lucky enough to explore Hello Kitty Island since it's already closing time.

I will definitely come back for you.

5. Lastly, you can take pictures in what I call "lover's lane". You would not believe how many times we attempted to take a solo picture here. Photo bombers everywhere! Haha!

Annyeong cutie couple at my back! *seems like impossible to have a decent picture*

If you are wondering, yes there are a lot of restaurants and cafes in Namsan Tower. Though we haven't tried since we are looking for another place to eat dinner. But definitely there are restaurants that you can try.

Our only expense when we went to Namsan Tower was the cable car ride. Totally worth checking out to see Seoul at a different point of view! :)

FIRST BLOG: Travel Diaries 2015: Coron, Palawan, Philippines - How to get there and Where we stay

To start of my 2015 travel diaries, me and my college friends decided to go to Coron, Palawan. We actually planned the trip around September 2014 to get best deals of airfare going to the place. However, we didn't have the best of luck looking for cheap flights going to Palawan so we decided to book a flight already without airfare promos. I could say that we still got the best deals so far because I really enjoyed our 4 days and 3 nights stay in Coron.

Coron is a first class municipality in the province of Palawan, Philippines, comprising the eastern half of Busuanga Island, all of Coron Island and about 50 other minor islets stretching as far as Tara Island in the northeast and Canipo Island in the south. All these islands are part of the Calamian Archipelago in Northern Palawan that separates the South China Sea from the Sulu Sea. According to the 2010 census, it had a population of 42,941 people. (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coron,_Palawan)

Breathtaking view of municipality of Coron from Mt. Tapyas (photo credit: MarkVillanuevaPhotography; photographer: Mark Villanueva)

Going to Coron takes about 45 mins. - 1 hour travel time from Manila via airplane. There are available flights going to Busuanga (MNL - USU; USU - MNL) via PAL (Philippine Airlines) and Cebu Pacific Air.

Arrival at Francisco B. Reyes Airport, Busuanga via Philippine Airlines

Upon arrival at Francisco B. Reyes Airport, our tour guide is already waiting for us. Travel time from Busuanga Airport to Coron town proper takes about 30 - 45 mins.

NOTE: Stores outside the airport sells costly meals. Better bring crackers, biscuits or sandwiches with you.

We actually availed tour package from GAMAT Travel and Tours, which I highly recommend because our tour guide is very accommodating, welcoming and very informative all throughout our vacation. Kudos to Ate Jelyn! :) Here is their facebook page in case you plan to avail: https://www.facebook.com/gamattravelandtours

You may find a bunch of tour packages online. As per our experience availing a tour package, they will suggest an itinerary, and from there you can add some places you also want to visit and activities you want to do in Coron. They also offer a lot of packages to choose from. Price availability depends on the places you want to visit or the choice of accommodation. Also, great thing about it is that there are no hidden charges. Well, we just paid for our snorkeling masks. (150 pesos or 3.40 USD)
